My mom took great care of us after Lincoln was born. She cooked, cleaned and did laundry so I could spend my days feeding Lincoln, spending a little moment here and there with Stephen and catching up on sleep.
If you asked her, though, she'd tell you that her #1 priority was watching Stephen. He is a little bit of a handful. He's not mischievous just really, really curious. You need to keep your eye on him every moment he's awake or you'll be spending lots of time cleaning up a disaster or two. When I was down in AZ visiting my parents, my mom noticed all the "time outs" Stephen got and thought I was a little over zealous. She told me after a few weeks watching Stephen that she completely understood :) But with all that curiousity built in, he is a ton of fun too. Everyday is an adventure with Stephen.
After dinner one night he was doing something with his food that he decided not to eat and somehow fell off of his chair and wacked his head pretty good. After we thought the tears were over, he just kept crying. So mom decided to take his mind off of it. She took his bowl outside where we had very freshly fallen snow and scooped him him a bowl full. He was shocked as were we. He stopped crying immidiately and looked at us like, "is this allowed?" Then he dug in and was all about his new dinner. I don't think he ate much but he had fun nonetheless.

That's so wonderful that your mom was able to come and help after the birth. I love the idea of distracting Stephen with snow. I would have loved to have snow to play with inside my house as a child! That's a great idea. Come to think of it . . . I suppose I could do that now. I am an adult after all. Right?
