Giving Thanks

Mom and Dad Earl came to us for Thanksgiving this year. We were very excited. The only bug was that most of our nice stuff is still in storage so we had kind of a hodge/podge as far as place-settings and serving dishes go.

This was the first time I have ever cooked a Thanksgiving dinner by myself. I was a little stressed about it. All in all it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I made a few things ahead of time to make things a little easier.

I soaked the turkey in a special brine for 24 hours and then I put a butter/herb mix on the outside of the turkey before putting it in the cooking bag. I am not a huge fan of turkey but this method made it taste amazing! I will definitely do it again next year. There was one mishap. I forgot to make slits in the cooking bag before putting it in the oven. About 1/2 hour before it was done I peeked to check it and I thought the bag was going to explode! Oops. Everyone said the turkey was fabulous so I told them it was all in the pressure cooking ;)

Stephen loved having Grandma & Grandpa here. It took a few minute for him to warm up to them but then he loved every minute that they were here--which, sadly, was only 2 days:( They did buy him some really cute clothes including this little trendy "thanksgiving" number. Poor Grandpa started a few times when I'd call for Stephen--it's not fun having a poopin', slobberin', spittin' baby around with the same name :)

Here's a great shot of Stephen sneaking over to wake Grandpa up.
